A hands-on project on developing and manufacturing an automated aquarium fish feeder

Aquariums are becoming pretty popular these days especially in the middle class families in the cities. People with hectic city life often struggles to keep track of their fishes in the aquarium and to maintain them. Often the long work hours exhausts people up and they cannot keep track of their fishes diet and health and other conditions properly. With this in mind the idea of the project is developed. This project attempts to create an automated fish feeding system that will take input of how many times the fish should be fed a day and the interval between each meal and the amount to give in each meal. The system will then automatically take care of the fishes diet all over the day. This reduces the necessity for the people to keep checking on their fishes while the fishes can maintain a really healthy diet. The project uses an arduino nano board as the central processor, a servo motor for the moving mechanical part that delivers the food, a timer to keep track of the time, a screw with an accurate measure of a unit of food. Based on the input from the user through the numpad, the screw is rotated to release the required amount of food into the water. The programming of the chip is done through the arduino IDE and is made keeping in mind about the energy efficiency of the system.
